Green Deal

How the Green Deal works:

The Energy Act of 2011 included a section dedicated to The Green Deal (GD) – the whole purpose of the GD is to cost effectively (for the household) reduce carbon emissions output by upgrading the energy efficiency of UK properties so it's good for both the household and environment.

There is a financial incentive for householders to upgrade their home or business – no upfront payment; the money is recouped over a period of years by paying back the energy provider, the figure is worked out from the amount of energy cost savings & this is added to the energy bill.

From the 28th January 2013 the Government backed Green Deal is a huge opportunity for GD approved assessors, contractors & installers to grow financially and learn new skilled trades, over the next few years. The Government has made the application process easy; apply for an assessment, appoint a GD provider / installer to carry out the work and the money will be paid-back in instalments to the approved energy provider.

Only approved Green Deal Advisors (GDAs) are approved to carry out assessments on both households & business premises and their findings; GD Advice Report (GDAR) will consist of both an Energy Performance Certificate & Occupancy Assessment – this will be fed back to the customer. Every homeowner / business who wishes to obtain GD Finance, will have to go through this process first before progressing to the second stage of applying for finance.

Approved GD installation qualifications range due to the work; insulation (cavity wall / roof), heating & ventilation (new boiler / central heating), double glazing, renewable energy technology inc solar panels or wind turbines, Smart energy saving Meters. As expected, the installer or business must demonstrate it meets the required GD standards (i.e. PAS 2030).

The Green Deal kitemark: all GD organisations must be authorised to display the recognisable green logo and the general public is been educated to look for the quality mark.

The Green Deal Assessment Accreditation:

The Green Deal (GD) is the UK Government's policy on energy efficiency in buildings both domestic & commercial across the UK. The GD independent assessment will feed-back recommendations for building improvements to aid energy efficiency and estimate likely energy savings were improvements to be installed. The work is then passed onto an independently chosen Green Deal Advisor, who will in-turn appoint a GD skilled installer.

The Green Deal assessment qualifications are aimed at both practising Domestic & Non-Domestic Energy Assessors, and new Individuals wishing to provide GD approved Advice – this could be very relevant qualification for an already skilled trades peoson to obtain either a Level 3 or 4 GD assessment accreditation!

The Green Deal Advisor qualification; comprises of producing the Green Deal Assessment Report (GDAR), using specific & approved software.

The GDAdvisor (GDA) will have a combination of both technical and practical knowledge to provide households & businesses with the advice they need to take informed decisions.
